# Which airport serves Vienna and how far is it from the city center?

Vienna is served by [**Vienna International Airport (VIE)**](https://allaboutvienna.com/vienna-international-airport-vie/), also known locally as **Flughafen Wien-Schwechat**, since it is located near the town of **Schwechat**.

✈️ **Key details:**

- **Distance from city center:** about **18 km (11 miles) southeast** of Vienna’s Innere Stadt (1st District).
- **Travel time:**

  - 🚄 **City Airport Train (CAT):** 16 minutes nonstop to **Wien Mitte**.
  - 🚆 **ÖBB Railjet trains:** 15–20 minutes to **Wien Hauptbahnhof** (Vienna Central Station).
  - 🚈 **S-Bahn S7:** 25 minutes to Wien Mitte (cheapest option).
  - 🚌 **Airport bus ([Vienna Airport Lines](https://allaboutvienna.com/vienna-airport-info/)):** 20–40 minutes depending on the route.
  - 🚕 **Taxi / Uber / Bolt:** about 20–30 minutes, usually **€30–40**.
  - 🚗 Driving: ~25 minutes (depending on traffic).

👉 Unlike some major cities, Vienna has just **one main international airport (VIE)**, so it’s straightforward—this is where nearly all international flights arrive and depart.
