One minute’s walk from Vienna’s most popular food market, Naschmarkt, is where you’ll find the Hotel Beethoven, which is tucked away on a backstreet in a neoclassical structure behind Theatre an der Wien. It is possible to reach on foot the Academy of Fine Arts, which is home to a prized collection of Old Master paintings, the golden dome of the Secession, which includes Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze; all of the major concert halls, including the State Opera; and Café Sperl, which is considered to be one of the most atmospheric coffeehouses in the city. All within a few minutes of walking distance. The nearest underground station is Karlsplatz, two stops from the main station.
Rooms
The rooms are dispersed across six storeys and come in a wide variety of décor styles. In addition to having taller ceilings and larger windows, the rooms on the first four levels are also more light-filled. In terms of design, each floor is devoted to a particular theme, which ranges from the Vienna coffeehouse literati to the Secession, Beethoven, Theatre a der Wien, and powerful female personalities of the fin de siècle.
Because of this, every space is quite unique, ranging from modern and cool to bordello chic (pin-striped and crimson-kissed) and an extravagantly Biedermeier aesthetic. There is an abundance of quirky elements, ranging from dressmakers’ mannequins to repro Bakelite phones. In addition to having walk-in rain showers, bathrobes, and slippers, the majority of bathrooms are paved with marble, and a few of them also have freestanding tubs.
Services
Barbara, the owner, is frequently available to provide guests with advice, despite the fact that the ambiance is purposefully kept low-key. In the sophisticated lounge with glass walls, guests can enjoy complimentary beverages like as tea, coffee, and Viennese pastries in the afternoon.
The beautifully polished Bösendorfer grand piano serves as the centrepiece of the establishment, and it is brought to life during the wonderfully small chamber music concerts that take place on the weekends. In addition, there is a lovely courtyard that is adorned with plants, where you can go to get some solitude and fresh air, or where you may eat breakfast when the sun is out.
Food and drinks
A wide variety of freshly baked breads and pastries, homemade mueslis, seasonal fruits, Staud’s preserves, local organic juices, cheeses and hams, antipasti, smoked salmon, omelettes and eggs to order, coffee and Demmers teas are served for breakfast.
The breakfast is served in a salon that is lit by chandeliers. The bistro offers a limited variety of regional specialties as well as selected wines from Austria that are served by the glass. The hotel is located within a five-minute stroll of a large number of restaurants, coffeehouses, and pubs, not to mention the numerous possibilities for street food that can be found at the Naschmarkt, which is located close.
