Maria Theresien Square

Maria-Theresien-Platz is a large public square between Ringstrasse and the Museumsquartier. Facing each other from the sides of the square are two twin buildings, the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museum. The Square is decorated with the grand statue of empress Maria Theresa.

Ringstrasse

The Ringstrasse is a circular grand boulevard that serves as a road around the historic central part of Vienna. Ringstrasse replaced the medieval city fortifications in the second half of the 19th century.

Today it is a beautiful complex of grand buildings including City Hall, Parliament, Burgtheater, Vienna State University, State Opera, and many more. Historic Ring Road style is using elements of Classical, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. Ringstrasse is designated by UNESCO as a part of Vienna’s World Heritage Site.

Heroes Square is a large open, green area attached to the city after the old bastion adjacent to the palace was demolished during the Napoleonic Wars.
